Case Scenario for Comprehension Difficulties:
John reads words accurately, but he cannot comprehend. He has difficulty connecting to the language that he reads or hears. Words go in one ear and out the other.

Cause:
A primary cause of language comprehension problems is difficulty in imaging, causing people to get only “parts” of what they have read or heard. This is called weak concept imagery.

Symptoms:
•Read and reread several times but still
   cannot understand or remember
•Connect to only part of a conversation or story
  •Unorganized writing
  •Cannot answer questions well
  •Weak vocabulary skills
•Ask and re-ask the same question
  •Difficulty understanding language-based jokes
  •Difficulty following multi-step directions
  •Cannot re-tell a story in sequence
•May be labeled as a poor listener or ADD

Solution:
The Reading Therapy Center, Inc. uses the *Visualizing/Verbalizing™ program to teach imaging and improve comprehension.
